Letter: Proposal 3 not good for Michigan

November 01 2012
To the editor: Proposal 3 was obviously not written with Michigan residents in mind. This renewable energy experiment is not good for Michigan. It is costly, irresponsible and unnecessary.
More than doubling the current standard to 25 percent by 2025 will result in steep energy rate increases for customers. Michigan businesses and families will be on the hook for $12 billion in renewable energy technology development for years to come. This is an expense we simply cannot afford.
Our state already has a renewable energy standard of 10 percent by 2015, established in 2008 with bipartisan support from the Legislature. If passed, Proposal 3 will override that law, ultimately eliminating local control. Since we already have a law on the books that works for Michigan, we should vote NO on Proposal 3.
